A breakfast with the theme Honoring a Higher Call will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Shalom Spirituality Center, 1001 Davis St.

The presenter would be Lyle Potter, a family genealogist who brings to life stories of those who were called to serve God from his ancestry.

Among them were the Rev. Aloysius Schmitt, who was a World War II Navy chaplain hero; Sister Cyril Boeding, who served in Dubuque as a nurse at Loras College and Xavier Hospital; and the Rev. Henry Plaster from Dyersville, who laid down his blacksmith hammer to take his brother’s place in the seminary when his brother died.

The offering is $10. Register by calling 563-582-3592 or emailing info@shalomretreats.org.
