GALENA, Ill. — Creative balloons aloft with color will fill the sky when the Great Galena Balloon Race takes flight.

The annual event will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday, June 21, with live music, inflatables for kids, a hot air balloon race and the popular night glow.

The weekend will continue with additional opportunities to catch races and see the night glow, as well as check out a classic car show, featuring Antique Town Rods, of Galena; High Point Cruisers, of Scales Mound; and Southwest Wisconsin Auto Club, of Platteville, Wis.

New this year will be the Great Galena Art Sale on Saturday, June 22. It will showcase plein air and other work created by regional artists.

Admission is $5 at the gate, cash only. No carry-ins are permitted. Free parking and shuttle service will be available. Patrons also can buy a balloon ride at www.buyaballoonride.com.

In its 17th year, the Great Galena Balloon Race benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Camp Hertko Hollow. Since its inception in 2002, the event has raised more than $250,000 for youth with diabetes.
