In reference to the letter of June 18: Kudos to Dr. Donald Kahle on pushing to get Dubuque and the surrounding area another medical center, namely a neurosurgical center. It has been years since we had a neurosurgeon in the area.

I lost a son on Aug. 19, 1989, with head injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. I feel if a neurosurgeon would have been available to help him, maybe my son might be alive.

Granted, Iowa City, Madison and the Mayo Clinic are great, but here in our community we need that one specialist who can hopefully save many people with problems other than just motorcycle or auto accidents. MercyOne, UnityPoint Finley, Medical Associates and private physicians — please, get together, work together and get us what we need for our community, namely another neurosurgeon, which we need so much.
