Police said a feud that started over social media led to an altercation that included one Dubuque woman hitting another with her vehicle.

Jasmine M. Barnes, 28, of 483 Loras Blvd., No. 1, is charged in Iowa District Court for Dubuque County with assault with intent to inflict serious injury. She was scheduled to have a court hearing Wednesday morning.

Court documents state Dubuque police responded to the area of West 17th and West Locust streets at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after someone in the area called 911 then hung up. Jamel D. Scott, 25, of 414 W. Locust St., was found with an injured arm. She was taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

Scott told police that she and Barnes had been in a feud over the past week related to social media, and on Tuesday, Barnes confronted Scott outside of Scott’s residence, documents said. They fought, then Barnes got back into her vehicle, made a U-turn and drove at Scott. The vehicle’s mirror hit Scott’s arm, and Barnes fled the area.

Documents said Barnes told police that Scott started the fight with her and she drove away to escape. She said she dropped something during the altercation and drove back to get it. She said she heard something hit her car but believed Scott had thrown a rock.

Documents said traffic camera footage supported Scott’s story. Scott also was arrested on a charge of disorderly conducted related to the incident.
