Police said a woman fell asleep at the wheel and her vehicle struck a house Saturday afternoon in Dubuque.

Mary J. Clauer, 78, of Dubuque, was transported to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for treatment of possible injuries, according to police.

Police said Clauer was traveling east in the 1400 block of West Third Street at 1:30 p.m., when she fell asleep and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle struck bushes outside 1489 W. Third St., then struck a home owned by Janet M. Smith at 1419 W. Third St., causing $20,000 damage.

The vehicle then crossed Glen Oak Street and struck a fire hydrant before coming to a stop.’

Clauer was cited with failure to maintain control.
