William R. "Bill" Hutchins Sr., 89, of 1051 Bonnie Court, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Hutchins SVD and the Rev. James Bergin SVD officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a scripture service at 3 p.m. with Deacon David McGhee officiating.

Bill was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Otter Creek, Iowa, son of Raymond and Marguerite (Hawkes) Hutchins.

He married Martha Molony on Oct. 12, 1948, at St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen; she preceded him in death on July 24, 2011.

Bill served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II in Europe.

He was the vice president of the lending department for American Trust & Savings Bank for many years until his retirement.

Bill was an unassuming man who centered his life around his wife and family.

Surviving are his seven children, the Rev. Michael Hutchins SVD, of Weldon, Iowa, William (Kay) Hutchins Jr., of Cascade, Iowa, Patrick (Margaret) Hutchins, of Bernard, Iowa, Kevin Hutchins, of Epworth, Iowa, Kelly Hutchins, of Laurel, Iowa, Marysue Hutchins, of Dubuque, and Mark Hutchins, of Evansville, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Carol) Hutchins, of Bernard; a sister, Madelyn Connolly, of Dubuque; brothers-in-law, Leo Cox, of Dubuque, Richard Molony, of Bernard, and Patrick (Elaine) Molony, of Peosta, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Anne Feeney, of Bernard, and Rita Della Valle, of San Rafael, Calif.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Cox.

Memorials may be given to Divine Word College.

The family would like to thank all the health care professionals at Medical Associates and Mercy Medical Center for all the care and kindness they gave to Bill.
