Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Greenview Cemetery, 1201 Avenue of the Cities/Colona Road, in East Moline, Ill. Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Mike’s family.

Mike was born on October 12, 1967, in Moline, Ill., the youngest son of Robert and Donna (Pilcher) Mattan. Mike truly enjoyed his early years among family and friends, and it didn’t take him long to discover the value of being a gentle soul in this life. Mike eventually developed a love for sports, and whether he was coaching his kids’ baseball teams, or watching the J-Hawks play, you could be sure Mike was content in the moment.

He spent many years working with the Papa Murphy’s franchise in Lawrence, Kan., before he moved back to Dubuque to be close to family. His health issues had slowly increased over recent years, and being home became a blessing in time. We will miss Mike and his kind heart, but we know that he is at peace now and will be fighting no more earthly battles while he’s waiting to see us once again. We miss you Mike, we love you and we’ll cherish every wonderful memory you leave behind.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Mike include his parents, Robert (Donna) Mattan, of Dubuque; his children, Tyler Mattan, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Morgan (Luke) Whitaker, of Lawrence; and his siblings, Michelle Fitzgibbons, of Dubuque, and Kevin (Cathy) Mattan, of Tampa, Fla.; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert (Mary) Mattan and Gail (Hollice) Pilcher-Bogart; and his uncle, William “Bill” Mattan.

Mike’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor, Hospice of Dubuque and MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, for all of their wonderful care and support of Michael and his family.

In lieu of flowers, a Michael S. Mattan Memorial Fund has been established.
