The Dyersville Beckman softball team picked up two victories on Saturday at the North Fayette Valley Invitational in West Union, Iowa.
The Trailblazers opened with a 10-3 victory over Kee High, where Beckman posted nine runs between the fourth through sixth innings to pull away. Shea Steffen went 2-for-3 with a double, while Emily Wulfekuhle added a double and Kiersten Schmitt blasted a home run. Sydney Steffen earned the win in the circle.
Beckman closed with a 9-4 victory over the host TigerHawks. Beckman allowed three runs in the first inning, but answered with four of their own and then broke a tie later in the game with a four-run fifth inning. Lauren Osterhaus went 3-for-3 with a double and won in the circle for the Blazers.
Dubuque Hempstead 13-23, Waterloo West 0-2 — At Waterloo, Iowa: The Mustangs’ bats were on fire in a pair of three-inning sweeps on Friday night.
In the opener, Katie Schaul went 2-for-2 with a triple, while Lydia Ettema had two doubles and Kaylie Springer, Kayla LaPage and Jadyn Glab had a double each.
Game 2 was over quickly, as the Mustangs put up 17 runs in the first inning behind Schaul and Ettema each hitting grand slams. Schaul finished the doubleheader with nine RBIs, and Malarie Huseman earned two wins in the circle.
Dubuque Wahlert 8-14, Cedar Rapids Kennedy 2-0 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: The Golden Eagles (4-1, 3-1 Mississippi Valley Conference) rolled to a sweep on Friday night.
Jared Weber and Aaron Savary earned complete-game victories on the mound, while Jackson Frese went deep in the opener for the Eagles. Jared Walter finished 6-for-6 with three doubles.
Cedar Rapids Washington 16-3, Dubuque Senior 8-14 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: The Rams (2-3) earned a split on Friday night, led by Johnny Blake and Cole Smith cranking out triples in Game 2. Trevor Huinker won on the mound, holding the Warriors to four hits.
Ben Hefel hit a homer for the Rams in the opener.
