The Western Dubuque baseball team remained perfect in the Mississippi Valley Conference with a 6-4, 10-1 doubleheader sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington on Friday night at Farley Park.

Casey Perrenoud drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to spark the Bobcats to victory in the opener.

In the nightcap, Calvin Harris and Jeff Theisen combined to allow only four hits. The Bobcats got production from every spot in the lineup to improve to 12-1 and 10-0 in their first season in the MVC.

Western Dubuque swept Dubuque Senior, Dubuque Hempstead and Washington during a 7-0 week. The Class 4A No. 2-ranked Bobcats visit Class 3A top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier in an MVC doubleheader on Monday.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy 8-5, Dubuque Hempstead 7-6 — At Core Field: Joe Vize’s line drive into center field led to a walkoff victory in extra innings to win the nightcap and secure a split for Hempstead with the Cougars.

Michael Garrett hit two doubles for the Mustangs in Game 2, while Max Pins and Logan Runde also connected for doubles. Zach Sabers drew a walk to start the bottom of the eighth inning, then Devin Eudaley bunted to move him to second. Vize’s single brought him home.

Easton Valley 8-5, Bellevue Marquette 0-2 — At Bellevue, Iowa: The Mohawks could only manage three hits in each game, and dropped a doubleheader to Easton Valley.

Cascade 16, Jesup 2 — At Jesup, Iowa: The Cougars improved to 9-2 with their fourth straight win.

PREP SOFTBALL

Hempstead wins pair — At Jesup, Iowa: The Class 5A No. 14-ranked Mustangs picked up two wins in the first day of the Jesup tournament.

Hempstead beat Edgewood-Colesburg, 10-0 in six innings, behind Jadyn Glab’s grand slam in the first inning. Malarie Huseman earned the win with 11 strikeouts in five innings.

The Mustangs topped North Fayette Valley, 13-1 in three innings. Huseman sparked the victory with another win in the circle while going 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run.

Rams drop 2 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Dubuque Senior lost twice at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Classic, dropping a 5-2 game to Johnston and a 6-5 nailbiter to Urbandale.

Rylee Capesius had an RBI single against Johnston for the Rams, while Imani Busch drilled a triple against Urbandale.

Bellevue Marquette 11-13, Easton Valley 1-3 — At Bellevue, Iowa: Kaylee Koos went 5-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Mohawks in a dominant sweep of Easton Valley. Grace Tath picked up two wins in the circle for Marquette.
