Andrue Henry went deep twice, Zach Sabers also went yard and the Dubuque Hempstead baseball team picked up a 3-2 and 12-2 sweep over Cedar Rapids Washington at Core Field in Mississippi Valley Conference action on Thursday.

In the opener, the Mustangs (8-5) scored the winning run in the sixth inning. Sabers hit a home run and a double, while Devin Eudaley drilled a double and won on the mound. Henry hit his first homer.

Henry went deep again in the nightcap, and also added a double. Eudaley hit a triple while Michael Garrett earned the win on the bump.

Wilton 2, Bellevue 0 — At Wilton, Iowa: Trey Daugherty went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, but the Comets couldn’t get a key hit to bring a run across in the loss.


Dubuque Senior 17-15, Cedar Rapids Washington 4-2 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Imani Busch had four hits that included a triple, Leah Sullivan hit two doubles and Mandi Moyer and Sydney Schultz earned pitching wins as the Rams scored a sweep of the Warriors.

Dubuque Hempstead 9-5, Cedar Rapids Jefferson 4-0 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Natalie Schemmel hit for a double and a triple in the opener to support Malarie Huseman, Katie Schaul and Huseman drilled doubles in Game 2 to back Lydia Ettema in the circle, and the Class 5A No. 10-ranked Mustangs (15-4) pulled out a sweep of Jefferson.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy 4-4, Dubuque Wahlert 2-1 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: The Golden Eagles (10-8) pushed the Class 5A No. 4-ranked Cougars (12-1), but dropped a pair of close games. Anna Chapman hit a double and struck out eight in the circle in the opener to lead the Eagles.

Dyersville Beckman 7-16, Vinton-Shellsburg 4-6 — At Dyersville, Iowa: Sydney Steffen went 3-for-4 with two home runs and struck out nine in the circle in a huge performance in the opener, then Heather Boeckenstedt finished 3-for-4 with a triple in Game 2 as the Trailblazers (12-7) earned a sweep.

Bellevue Marquette 10-5, East Buchanan 3-2 — At Bellevue, Iowa: Grace Tath struck out 11 in the opener, and Holly Kremer hit a home run and drove in four runs in the night cap as the Mohawks secured the sweep.


Ihm in 104th place — At Springfield, Ill.: Dubuque Wahlert and University of Iowa grad Steven Ihm shot a 4-over 75 in the first round of the Tour’s Lincoln Land Championship at Panther Creek Country Club. Billy Kennerly leads the field with a 6-under 65.
