Belmont is heading to the state baseball tournament for the first time in program history.

Belmont won its WIAA Division 4 sectional final, 14-1, in five innings over Bangor on Wednesday in Muscoda, Wis. The Braves beat De Soto in the semifinals, 6-2, earlier in the day and advanced to Tuesday’s state semifinal against Mineral Point in Grand Chute, Wis.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson 7-1, Dubuque Senior 3-11 — At Dubuque: Tom Casey homered and Trevor Huinker earned the win in Game 2 as the Rams split.

Iowa City High 8-2, Dubuque Wahlert 5-0 — At Iowa City: Jake Brosius had three hits in the opener for the Golden Eagles.

Dyersville Beckman 3-5, Benton Community 0-9 — At Dyersville, Iowa: Seamus O’Connor doubled and struck out nine on the mound in the opener as the Trailblazers (9-2) split with Benton on Wednesday.


Western Dubuque 6, Dubuque Senior 4 — At Farley, Iowa: Sara Horsfield had four hits and Sydney Kennedy outdueled Sydney Schultz as the Bobcats beat the Rams.
