Malarie Huseman tossed a no-hitter on Saturday for Dubuque Hempstead at the Jesup tournament, where the Mustangs finished runner-up in Jesup, Iowa.
Huseman allowed no hits in a six-inning complete game shutout over West Delaware, striking out five in a 2-0 victory. Kayla LaPage went 2-for-3 with a double for the Class 5A No. 9-ranked Mustangs.
In the tournament championship game, Hempstead was nipped by Class 4A No. 8 Independence, 3-2. Huseman again was stellar in the circle, holding Independence to two hits with 13 strikeouts in the complete game effort. Hempstead dropped to 12-4 overall on the season.
Cascade wins twice — At Springville, Iowa: Cascade earned two victories at the Springville tournament.
The Cougars beat Central Elkader, 12-0 in three innings, with Hailey Hannan hitting a double. In a 4-2 win over HLV, Hannan won in the circle and Morgan Kremer went 3-for-3, all doubles.
Alburnett 11-6, Bellevue Marquette 4-7 — At Bellevue, Iowa: The Mohawks earned the split by walking-off to victory in the eighth inning of the nightcap. Kaylee Koos and Emma Callaghan drove in two runs each for Marquette, while Holly Kremer homered in the opener.
Cascade 17-7, North Fayette Valley 7-6 — At Cascade, Iowa: Logan Otting, Riley Reed and Kaleb Topping drove in two runs apiece as the Cougars walked-off in the eighth inning of the nightcap to complete the sweep of the TigerHawks.
Eli Green connected for a solo home run in the opener for Cascade.
Beckman splits — At Waterloo, Iowa: Dyersville Beckman lost to Don Bosco, 4-2, but rebounded with a 13-0 romp over Lisbon.
Shawn Deutmeyer hit two doubles and Trent Koelker notched the win on the mound for Beckman, which rolled up 11 hits and only allowed three in the victory.
