LENA — An investigation is underway by Illinois State Police into the fatal shooting of an allegedly armed man seen attempting to enter a bank, officials said Monday.
David W. Determan, 52, of Lena, was shot by city police and a Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department deputy on Friday.
Police said Determan was seen firing into the air outside Citizens State Bank in Lena, nearly 39 miles west of Rockford. A resulting standoff saw Determan speaking with officers and a Stephenson County negotiator while holding a weapon.
State police said Determan raised his weapon in the direction of officers, who opened fire.
