A local organization that offers educational opportunities and advocacy to adult immigrants, especially women, has temporarily halted in-person services due to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community.

The Lantern Center announced the shift to online tutoring services in a social media post. The organization had reopened its center at 900 Jackson St., Suite LL5-1, in May after previously being shuttered due to COVID-19 concerns.

The post states that a “high level of transmission in our community has negatively, continuously, affected our staffing capacity and our number of available tutors for months.” The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Dubuque County rose to 909 in the week ending Wednesday, the highest seven-day total since Nov. 14 to 20, 2020.
