Tim Ryan, 45, is a congressman from Ohio and a former congressional staffer.
In Congress since age 29, he says he's running for president "to bring compassion and clarity back to the White House." He considers himself a champion of blue-collar voters and favors renegotiating or enforcing trade deals, standing up to China, unions rights and workforce development. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus.
Ryan has also served in the Ohio State Senate where he led efforts to establish a state-based earned income tax credit, to standardize community school data reporting, and to bring college students into the debate over higher education funding, according to his campaign.
He started his career in politics as a congressional aide in 1995 and later served as an intern for the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
