Joe Sestak

Former Pennsylvania congressman Joe Sestak has become the latest Democrat to enter the presidential race.

Joe Sestak, 67, is a former Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District, serving from 2007 to 2011. Sestak announced that he was running for president of the United States on June 23, saying he would focus his campaign on his experience in the military.

If elected, Sestak said his top priorities as president will be combating climate change and countering Russia and China's global influence.

The retired Navy admiral who calls himself “Admiral Joe” on his campaign website joins a crowded Democratic field seeking the nomination to challenge President Donald Trump. Sestak decries what he calls "America’s retreat from the world" and says strong action is needed to deal with climate change, corporate accountability and China’s geopolitical threat.
