A former Dyersville chiropractor who has lived in Croatia since 1997 has released a book with a northeast Iowa setting.
Douglas Cavanaugh’s “The Long Away Around” is a coming of age story about a young man who struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in the American heartland. Oelwein, Elgin and Strawberry Point are a few of the settings in the novel.
“The Long Way Around” is Cavanaugh’s second novel, following, “Into Hell’s Fire,” which was set in the Balkans and has been translated into Croation.

A Davenport, Iowa, native with a passion for world travel, Cavanaugh practiced chiropractic medicine in Dyersville and Oelwein before moving to Rijeka, a city of 108,000 on the Adriatic Sea.
