Forecasters have issued an air quality alert for eastern Iowa due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.

The alert is effective until noon Monday, Aug. 2, and includes Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson and Jones counties in Iowa, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service reports that fine particulate levels will increase above Environmental Protection Agency health standards until a smoke plume begins to clear Monday afternoon.

Sensitive groups, include older adults, people with respiratory or heart diseases and children should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the period of the alert, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
