Shopko closing

Retail chain Shopko closed earlier this year, shuttering area stores in Dubuque, Dyersville, Iowa, and Lancaster, Wis.

Shopko Stores’ Dubuque location likely will close for good June 22 or 23, according to store employees.

The date is contingent upon the store selling out of its merchandise.

Shopko announced in March that it would close all of its locations because it could not find a buyer that would enable the stores to remain open.

In April, Iowa Workforce Development said nearly 75 employees of Shopko Stores in Dubuque County would lose their jobs when the company closes its locations. Forty-five workers in Dubuque will be affected, as will 28 in Dyersville.
