Public meetings have been rescheduled for a proposed energy transmission line that would stretch from Dane County, Wis., to Dubuque County.
Previously scheduled meetings on the Cardinal-Hickory Creek Transmission Line were postponed due to the partial government shutdown.
The proposed 102- to 120-mile, 345-kilovolt line has proven controversial. While energy companies say it is necessary to improve the reliability of the system, opponents have decried the cost and urged alternative improvements to the energy system.
All meetings on the line's draft environmental impact statement will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the following dates:

Monday, March 18, at Cassville (Wis.) Middle School, 715 E. Amelia St.
Tuesday, March 19, at Peosta (Iowa) Community Centre, 7896 Burds Road

They also can be found at the libraries in Asbury and Guttenberg, Iowa, and Cassville, Lancaster, Livingston, Montfort, Platteville and Potosi, Wis. Copies also can be viewed at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service McGregor District Office in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
