Three area U.S. representatives won easy re-election victories Tuesday.
In Illinois’ 17th District, Democrat Cheri Bustos had garnered more than 60 percent of the vote, with about 75 percent of precincts reporting as of press time, topping Republican challenger Bill Fawell, of Galena. Bustos has held the position since 2013. The district covers much of northwest Illinois, including Jo Daviess County.
In Wisconsin’s 3rd District, Democrat Ron Kind was declared the winner in his race by The Associated Press with 58 percent of the vote, with 55 percent of precincts reporting. That bested the 42 percent received by his Republican opponent, Steve Toft. Kind has held the position since 1997. The district includes Crawford and Grant counties.
In the state’s 2nd District, Democrat Mark Pocan was unopposed in his re-election bid. He has held the seat since 2013. His district includes Iowa and Lafayette counties.
