LANCASTER, Wis. — Authorities said a southwest Wisconsin man was killed Saturday night when his vehicle collided with a loaded hay wagon.
Tristan K. LeGrand, 26, of Hazel Green, died of his injuries at Grant Regional Health Center, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.
A press release states that LeGrand was traveling south on Wisconsin 129 at the intersection with Lincoln Road in the Township of South Lancaster at approximately 8:17 p.m. when his vehicle struck and became wedged underneath the wagon being pulled by a tractor driven by Paul Adams, 63, of rural Lancaster. Adams also was traveling south on Wisconsin 129 and had been stopped in the southbound lane waiting for northbound traffic to clear so that he could make a left turn at the time of the crash.
LeGrand was extricated from the vehicle and life-saving measures were attempted, according to the release. Adams was not injured.
The release states that LeGrand was not wearing his seat belt.
Authorities believe that insufficient lighting was a possible factor in the crash, which is being investigated.
This incident was the third fatal crash in Grant County in 2021.
