A Dubuque man has pleaded guilty to some of the charges against him for allegedly sexually abusing three children.
Dennis R. Topping, 69, recently pleaded guilty in the Iowa District Court of Dubuque County to three counts of lascivious acts with a child.
If his plea deal is accepted, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse would be dismissed.
Topping's plea document states that he could be sentenced to 30 years in prison and must register as a sex offender for life.
Court documents state that Dubuque police were notified in April 2019 by the Iowa Department of Human Services staff of sexual abuse allegations against Topping. The agency reported he abused three children younger than 12 years old in Dubuque.
The Telegraph Herald does not identify victims of alleged sexual abuse.
A girl told her parents that Topping had repeatedly sexually abused her at a Dubuque home since late 2017, documents state. Her father confronted Topping, and he said Topping admitted to inappropriately touching that girl and two other children. Investigators interviewed the two other children, and one of them spoke about the abuse.
Topping's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27 at the Dubuque County Courthouse.
