Authorities said a man led officers on a high-speed chase early this morning in Dubuque.
Ronald F. Ward, 64, of 1203 Lincoln Ave., was arrested at 1:33 a.m. in the area of Digital Drive and Lake Eleanor Road on charges of eluding, interference with official acts and warrants charging two counts of fifth-degree theft, two counts of failure to appear and two counts of violation of pretrial supervision.
Court documents state that a Dubuque police officer observed Ward traveling 74 mph in a 55-mph zone at about 1:08 a.m. on U.S. 61 near the junction of U.S. 151. Ward led officers to the parking lot of Dubuque Regional Airport.
The vehicle stopped but Ward refused to leave his vehicle and drove away, traveling the wrong way past a do not enter sign and continuing north on U.S. 61.
Ward’s vehicle traveled at a maximum speed of 71 mph in a 55-mph zone.
The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department employed a tire-deflation device in the area of U.S. 61/151 and Digital Drive, deflating one of the vehicle’s tires.
Ward eventually pulled over on Lake Eleanor Road near the intersection with Digital Drive and was apprehended.
Ward also was cited with speeding, no insurance and reckless driving.
