STOCKTON, Ill.-- The Stockton (Ill.) FFA chapter plans to construct a new greenhouse and will soon host a fundraising event in support of the project.
Hannah Brudi, agriculture teacher at Stockton High School, said the school’s current greenhouse is about 5 feet by 10 feet, lacks ventilation and heating and can only hold about two students at a time.
The new greenhouse, which the FFA chapter plans to have completed by spring of 2023, will be 24 feet by 48 feet and will accommodate larger groups of students for year-round projects.
“We’re going to be able to have plants in there year-round, which will allow more hands-on learning for more students,” she said.
Brudi said the estimated cost of the greenhouse, not including installation or assembly, is about $30,000.
In support of the project, a spaghetti supper and live auction will be held on Sept. 25. The supper begins at 5 p.m., with the auction starting at 7 p.m.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the door. Brudi said organizers are still determining the price.
Those interested in attending the event should visit the Stockton FFA Chapter Facebook page for more information and a preview of some of the items up for auction.
