A daily temperature record for Dubuque was broken Thursday for the second straight day amid a heat wave.

The temperature in the city reached 93 degrees, topping the previous high for May 12 of 90 degrees set in 1896.

On Wednesday, Dubuque broke a 125-year-old daily temperature record when the high reached 92 degrees. The previous mark of 90 was set in 1897. The normal high temperature for this time of year is 67 degrees.

Temperatures will start falling over the next few days, with the National Weather Service predicting a high of 85 today, of 81 on Saturday and a near-normal 72 on Sunday.
