WARREN, Ill. — Two informational sessions will provide information on a plan to build a new swimming pool in Warren.

The first session will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, and the second will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. Both will be held at the Warren Community Center.

The Black Hawk Park District formed the committee a little more than a year ago, according to Francis Fennell, co-chairman of the Meridian Park Swimming Pool Committee.

“The park board wanted a group to come together and study what we should do with our pool. It’s 42 years old, and it’s aluminum,” Fennell said. “We looked at fixing what we have versus the cost of putting in a new pool.”

Working with Burbach Aquatics, a pool construction firm, the committee advised building a new pool.

“The park board approved for us to go ahead and strive for that, so we have a capital campaign,” Fennell said.

Fennell estimates that the cost of a new pool will be about $2.7 million.

“We will be looking at a referendum as well as grants and donations,” Fennell said. “We want the pool to open in 2021.”

He said the current pool is open, although the kiddie pool is not in use.

“Maintenance is getting more expensive to keep it going,” he said.
