LANCASTER, Wis. -- Lancaster will have a new mayor next spring.
David Varnam has announced that he will not seek re-election at that time. He first was elected to the position in April 2016 after serving nearly three years on the Common Council.
Earlier this year, he announced his intention to seek the 2022 Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
"It has been an honor to serve the people of Lancaster and to have been elected as mayor three times,” he said. “Since being elected in 2016, I have worked with city staff and the Common Council to add several new recreational opportunities, including a new swimming pool and opening city streets to ATV/UTVs.”
Varnam also said he helped oversee the reconstruction of the downtown square and U.S. 61 in Lancaster and helped facilitate bringing a new hotel to the city.
