DICKEYVILLE, Wis. -- SMSgt. Joseph L. Stelpflug, Sr., of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Dickeyville, went to be with God on Wednesday, October 1, 11:14 a.m. at San Antonio Military Medical Center despite his valiant fight following acute cardiac arrest.
Visitation was held October 6th from 4-8 p.m. at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapel with at 8 p.m. Burial with full military rites will be today in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. A private memorial service will be held locally at a later date.
He was born on December 20, 1958, Xavier Hospital in Dubuque. Joe graduated from Cuba City High School and went on to make the United States Air Force his career. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant and most recently worked Civil Service at Randolph AFB. Joe was an avid Packer Fan and enjoyed spending time with his brothers in the Combat Vets Association whom he considered family. Joe lived for his family and loved serving his country.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, MeLisa (Bartlett) Stelpflug; sons, Joseph L. (Angela) Stelpflug, Hot Springs, AK, LCpl Aaron Stelpflug, Okinawa, Japan; daughters, Erica (SSgt Richard) Nieves, Washington, D.C., SSgt Amanda (TSgt Bobby) Cosme, Abilene TX, and Brenna (PS3 Nicole) Stelpflug, San Antonio, TX; his parents, Vincent & Lucille Stelpflug, of Dubuque; his siblings, Laurie, Brad & Maribeth Stelpflug; and his grandchildren who were the light of his life and nieces and nephews all of whom will hold him in their hearts forever.
