Published April 24, 1956: First spade of dirt to start construction of the new $375,000 Holy Ghost School was turned Monday afternoon by the Most Rev. Leo Binz, archbishop of Dubuque. Chaplains to the archbishop were the Rev. Bruno Savage, O.F.M., (left), pastor of Holy Trinity Church, and the Rev. Frederick C. Bahning, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church. The acolyte at far left is unidentified. The ground-breaking ceremonies were witnessed by a large number of persons, including many pastors and priests of Dubuque churches, Sisters of St. Francis, and the children of Holy Ghost school. Construction will get fully under way by May 1. The new two-story school will provide 10 classrooms and will be built on the present school's playground. Unable to attend the ceremony because of illness was the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Leo A. Jaeger, pastor. (Note: Photo taken April 23, 1956.)
