After suffering its first Mississippi Valley Conference defeat of the season to start the week, the Western Dubuque baseball team got right back to business in non-conference action on Tuesday.

Kyle Lehmann went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs, along with going six strong innings on the mound with three strikeouts to earn the win as the Iowa Class 4A No. 2-ranked Bobcats beat Bettendorf, 10-5, in the opener of a doubleheader in Bettendorf, Iowa. WD earned the sweep with a 7-5 win in Game 2.

Carter Kluesner hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Bobcats, while Zack Butcher hit a double and Matt Maiers added two hits in the opener.

Lehmann and Sam Goodman hit triples in the nightcap, and Kluesner won on the mound for WD.

Dubuque Wahlert 12, Independence 2 (5 innings) — At Petrakis Park: A six-run third inning put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles in the five-inning victory. Jackson Frese, Jared Walter and Tommy Specht had two hits apiece for Wahlert, with Frese hitting a double and Walter and Specht going for triples.

Iowa City West 6-12, Dubuque Hempstead 2-11 — At Iowa City: The Mustangs dropped both games of a doubleheader on Monday night, with the nightcap coming in heartbreaking fashion as the Trojans rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off to victory. Andrue Henry hit two doubles and Joe Vize drilled a triple in Game 2 for Hempstead.


Edgewood-Colesburg 10-7, Bellevue Marquette 9-2 — At Colesburg, Iowa: Holly Kremer collected five totals hits and drove in four runs over the doubleheader, but the Mohawks committed 10 errors that helped propel the Vikings to a doubleheader sweep.
