Six Dubuque girls soccer players earned spots on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s all-district teams.

Wahlert’s Libby Perry and Maya Wachter both earned first-team selections for the Class 2A East District, while Senior’s Tia Martin was a first-team pick in Class 3A.

Wahlert landed a pair of players on the second team in Aunna Huseman and Gabby Moran. Hempstead’s Erin Rieckens was a second-team honoree in 3A.


Perry edged Wachter as the Golden Eagles’ top scorer this season, finishing with 15 goals and nine assists for 39 points. Wachter totaled 33 points behind 13 goals and seven assists.

Moran gave Wahlert a solid third scoring option with nine goals, seven assists and 25 points. Huseman added one goal for two points while primarily playing a defensive role for a team that allowed only 18 goals in 19 matches.

Martin led the Rams in scoring with 13 goals and eight assists, posting 34 points for a Senior team that broke the program’s single-season win record for a second consecutive season and just narrowly missed capturing a Mississippi Valley Conference divisional title.

Rieckens was the Mustangs’ leading scorer for the third consecutive year, finishing with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points.

8 players land on all-MVC first team — Eight city players received all-Mississippi Valley Conference first team honors with the release of league awards on Monday.

In the Mississippi Division, Senior’s Tia Martin, Olivia Kruse and Gracie Mena, along with Western Dubuque’s Alexis Banks, made the first team. Second-team accolades went to Senior’s Kaelyn Howe and Brooke Healey, as well as WD’s Faith Krapfl. Jillian Manternach and Sidney Kramer earned honorable mention for the Rams, as did Bobcats Molly McDermott and Skylar Dolphin.

In the Valley Division, Wahlert’s Libby Perry and Maya Wachter, along with Hempstead’s Anna Paca and Aaliyah Waggoner, made the first team. Second team accolades went to Wahlert’s Gabby Moran and Aunna Huseman and Hempstead’s Erin Rieckens and Riley Uthe. Allie Kutsch and Leni Grap earned honorable mention for the Golden Eagles, as did Mustangs Grace Daack and Emily Richter.

All-academic selections were Senior’s Howe and Sophie Shearer, WD’s McDermott and Morgan Simon, Wahlert’s Grap and Sophia Huntington and Hempstead’s Paca and Rieckens.


Cedar Rapids Xavier 3-1, Western Dubuque 0-10 — At Cedar Rapids, Iowa: The highly anticipated doubleheader between Class 4A No. 2 Western Dubuque and Class 3A No. 1 Xavier went as one might expect: a win for each in a split.

The Bobcats dropped their first game in the MVC in the opener, despite doubles from Zach Bierman and Casey Perrenoud. Sam Goodman struck out eight with only one earned run, but suffered the loss on the mound.

WD answered the challenge with a runaway victory in Game 2. Calvin Harris went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Damon Jaeger hit a double with two RBIs. Perrenoud went the distance on the mound and struck out six.


Dubuque Wahlert 15, Waverly-Shell Rock 4 — At Waverly, Iowa: Ellie Timmerman, Natalie Kelzer and Paige Hummel had three hits apiece, Lilly Roth hit two doubles, and the Golden Eagles collected 19 hits and romped past Waverly-Shell Rock.

Roth also notched the win in the circle as Wahlert improved to 8-6 overall.
